Lyla’s Nursery Theme
Hey everyone!
Today, I’m sharing all the details about Lyla’s nursery theme! This post is long overdue, so thank you for being patient with me. For those that have been following along, you’ll know that we decided to do Twinkle twinkle little star for her nursery theme. This theme came to life after Kent and I found out we were having a girl. We went shopping for a crib and I saw a sign at the furniture store that read “Twinkle twinkle little star, do you know how loved you are?”. I loved the saying and so I began to brainstorm ideas.
When we moved into our house, we knew that room would eventually become a nursery and so we painted it a light gray (Essential Gray from Sherwin Williams). I wanted something neutral that I could build a theme around. For the color scheme, I knew I wanted to incorporate lavender instead of traditional pink. I decided on lavender and gray with hints of gold sprinkled throughout. For the furniture, I stuck to mostly white since we had received a white dresser and bookshelf from Kent’s mom that she was no longer using. The only thing that wasn’t white was the glider we purchased. We went with a light gray option because I figured if we spilled anything on it, it’d be a little easier to clean than a white/cream color.
Now, for the actual room decor is where I really got to have some fun! As I mentioned earlier, the sign that I saw in the furniture store is what inspired the theme. I wanted to find something similar and so I hopped online and found lots of options. The only problem was everything I found didn’t match my color scheme. So, I decided to recreate the prints using Canva and I loved how they turned out! I printed them at Walgreens and then bought some gold frames from Michaels to put them in. Not only did I get to have complete creative control, but it also saved me money too! Speaking of prints, the other print in Lyla’s room was painted by her cousin Hayley! My one splurge for the decor was her name sign. I’ll link the Etsy shop I purchased it from. They did a phenomenal job! After the sign came, I went in and added some silver star stickers I purchased off Amazon to give it a little extra “sparkle”.
As for the other wall art, I got the star and moon tassels from Hobby Lobby along with the hanger rack! I also decided to hang her birth announcement sign with a crocheted cross one of Kent’s customers made for her. Since these were smaller items, I hung them on a smaller wall near her closet. The last thing we hung on the wall was a bow and headband organizer. I might have gone a little crazy with the bows, but at least Lyla will always have a bow to match any outfit! Haha. We put this behind her door so it didn’t take away from her theme. Another little knick knack that I put on her dresser was the “tiny little angel” vase. This belonged to her cousin Hayley. I gave it a little refresh by creating some star/moon picks to put in it.
Now to make the lavender pop in her room, I decided to buy all her storage bins/baskets in the lavender color. Some of these are under her changing table and the rest are in her closet. I also found a lavender cover for her changing table too. My favorite lavender item in her room though is her curtains! These were a steal! What made them even more perfect was they had small start cutouts in them so when the sun sets you can see the reflections on her wall. Adding these really tied her theme together and made her room feel magical. My mother also purchased a lavender baby blanket for her that I put over the glider when we aren’t using it.
Last, but certainly not least was her crib! Kent’s mom was gracious enough to pay for her beautiful crib. I knew instantly when I saw it, it was the one. It has more of an off-white color compared to some of the other furniture in her room but doesn’t look out of place in my opinion. To incorporate the theme into the crib, I purchased some star-printed sheets. They just happened to fit with her color scheme so that was an added bonus! I also purchased a personalized quilt to put over the side of the crib that has her name and the quote that I made prints of. I was also able to find a crib mobile that had stars and moons on it. To top it off, I found a star plush pillow at Hobby Lobby that I placed in the crib along with a lavender teddy bear I found at Target.
Overall, the room turned out better than I imagined! Decorating has always been a passion of mine, but this home project will always be near and dear to my heart since it was for our baby girl. I can’t wait to help her redecorate someday when she starts to have her own interests/style. Thank you all so much for reading. I will try and link anything that is still available down below if any of you are expecting and saw something you liked.
Have a great day!
Love, Brandi
