Life With Lyla: 9 Month Update

Hello friends!

Wow, I can’t believe I’m writing Lyla’s 9-month update! It’s wild how fast time is going. Lyla is getting SO big! Her daycare workers and I were just reminiscing the other day about how when Lyla was a newborn, she’d curl up into a little ball on our chests and fall asleep. Now, she’s so long that she takes up most of my chest/torso if she lays on me. Sometimes I miss the newborn stage and all the sweet cuddles, but I’m also enjoying the new stage we’re in. Lyla’s little personality is starting to flourish and she is full-on mobile these days. One thing that hasn’t changed so much is her hair, haha. It’s still crazy as ever, just a lot lighter than when she was a newborn. Her daycare workers tell us it reminds them of a dandelion when it blows in the wind 🙂.

This past month she got really comfortable with crawling and now follows us from room to room! She also now recognizes her name and even attempts to say it from time to time. She has learned how to wave to people and has learned how to signal to daycare that she’s done eating by waving both her hands. Speaking of eating, we were told that Lyla is a very “clean eater” compared to the other kids at daycare. I find this hard to believe given some of the messes she’s made at home, but if they consider that clean, I’m afraid to know what the other kids in her class do! Her daycare workers also told us that if she is given mixed fruit or vegetables she will pick out her favorites to eat first. She loves the cherries in the fruit cocktail! The Easter Bunny also visited her this month and I took advantage of twinning with my girl on this day!

One of her favorite toys at the moment is this rainbow-colored pom pom. It was originally on my car keys, and Lyla always wanted to play with it, so once it broke I gave it to her. She will hold on to that thing for dear life if you try to take it away from her. One morning at daycare, Kent was dropping her off and another little girl snatched it out of Lyla’s hand. As you can imagine, this did not sit well with Lyla, so she learned a valuable lesson that day: never bring your favorite toy to daycare 🙂. Lyla also really enjoys it when I pretend to be a lion and roar at her. She gives me this big belly laugh and it’s the best sound in the world. Her laugh is so contagious! One day I did this and she roared back at me! It was so cute!

Currently, Lyla is in the “stranger danger” phase. If she’s not familiar with someone, she holds onto Kent or me for dear life. She’s especially attached to me if she’s not feeling the best. She did get another ear infection this month and this time it was much worse. She had a 102.7 temp, which scared me because she has never had that high of a temperature before. She also was lethargic and had no appetite. Luckily, we were able to get her into Urgent Care and got her some stronger antibiotics to treat it.

Alright, and now for the funny story of the month! As I mentioned earlier, Lyla is pretty mobile these days and crawls all over the house. For fun, we sat her down in the middle of the kitchen while Kent and I sat on opposite sides of the room. I was curious to see who she would crawl to. Kent was convinced she would go to me. She started to head toward Kent’s direction, stopped, and then turned around to look at me. I shrugged and she took that as her sign to keep going to Kent. We decided to try it again. The second time she started to crawl toward me and stopped to look back at Kent. This time Kent shrugged and instead of continuing to come my way, she turned around and crawled back to Kent! 😂 I think it’s safe to say she’s not only her daddy’s twin but a daddy’s girl too 🙂.

Thanks for reading! ✨

Love, Brandi
