Life With Lyla: 8-Month Update

Hello everyone!

I’m so excited to be sharing Lyla’s 8-month update with you! She had a busy month and I’ve got all kinds of fun things to update you on! This month Lyla had the opportunity to try different foods. Waffles, pancakes, mac and cheese, chicken, yogurt bites, and much more! For as tiny as she is, she sure does enjoy her food! Peas are her favorite at the moment. I’m happy to see her enjoying her food because starting solids is no easy task. I’m happy to report that things are going much smoother this month! The only thing she does not like is when Kent or I attach the tray to her high chair. Lyla finds it amusing to put her feet up to prevent us from snapping the tray into place. 🙄 One thing I’ve noticed this month is when it’s time for a bottle if she is sucking on a binky, she will spit it out so she can take the bottle. However, once she’s done she will put it back in her mouth to signal that’s she done eating. It’s the cutest thing. She also loves trying to put her binky in my and Kent’s mouth. 🙂

Lyla had lots of milestones this month! She hasn’t started crawling yet, but she is close! She will get on her knees and rock back and forth (she usually does this in her crib) or she will pull up on one leg and try to move forward. She’s learned how to clap and enjoys clapping when she’s excited or playing with her fellow classmates. We’ve noticed that Lyla now reaches for toys or items that she drops on the floor. She seems to be more aware of when things are than in previous months. She also has started reaching for Kent or me when she wants to be held (this makes my mama heart so happy). Lastly, she recently has been sitting up in her crib after we lay her down for bed. She will roll over, get up on her knees and use her abs and arms to get into a seated position. Needless to say, Lyla is getting more mobile by the day and we have lots of baby-proofing to do!

One of the not-so-fun things that happened this month was Lyla got her first ear infection. ☹️ The poor thing was miserable and could not sleep whatsoever. Thankfully, the amoxicillin kicked in and she is feeling much better! Giving her the medicine was a chore in itself though. Lyla is very stubborn and likes to do things herself. She did not like when Kent or I gave it to her one bit. It took both of us to hold her down. It wasn’t until the second to last day that she started to warm up to the idea. We have been told by many people that Lyla is very strong for her age. Even her doctor said she is small but mighty. Therefore, I think it’s safe to say we have one, strong-willed little girl on our hands!

Some other things that happened this month were Lyla, Grandma Linda, and I all had our first of many girl’s days. We took her shopping and she enjoyed sitting in the cart and reaching for the outfits she liked best. I think she’s going to be a little fashionista because her eyes lit up when she saw the bright pink Adidas tracksuit that Grandma Maureen bought her. This month Kent also gave Lyla her new nickname “Lyla Bird”. I have no idea where the nickname came from, but it’s stuck and I’ve even caught myself saying it. Haha.

Alright, and now for our funny story! Everyone that knows Kent knows that he swears like a sailor most days…okay more like every day. 😂 Anyway, since Lyla has been getting older he’s really had to watch what he says. Well, one night we were sitting in the drive-thru waiting to order food and Kent was telling me a story about work. He dropped the F word and I looked at him and said “ah ah ah!” and so he backtracked and said, “I mean duck”. Little Lyla was sitting in the back silent as could be, but as soon as Kent said “I mean duck”, a small giggle escaped. It was like she understood the whole conversation! We both busted out laughing. She does that quite often and I think she understands more than we think she does!

Anyway, that is all the updates I have for this month. I hope you enjoyed this post and are all doing well.

Love, Brandi
