Life With Lyla: 7 Month Update

Hi friends!

I hope you all enjoyed Lyla’s 6-month update! Today, I’m sharing stories and milestones she reached in month 7. I say it every month, but her personality has developed so much. It’s crazy to see the differences between how she was as a newborn to now. I remember she was so chill as a newborn and now she’s our sassy little diva, haha. If she doesn’t like something, she will let you know. Kicking her feet, arching her back, and swatting our hands away are her go-to moves. 😉

So, what happened in month 7?! Well, last month we started solids with Lyla and quickly learned that she is a puree fan at all. She’s one independent chica and prefers to eat what mom and dad are eating. Therefore, we’ve been doing the baby-led weaning approach instead. It’s been going so-so. Some days she seems interested in the food, and others she just doesn’t want anything to do with it. I was excited to start feeding her table food, but I think I was a bit naive when it came to doing solids. In my head, I thought this would be a smooth process. Boy was I wrong! It’s been one of the more challenging parts of motherhood for me. I think it’s because I worry she’s not getting enough and when she doesn’t eat, my mama brain goes into overdrive wondering why she isn’t eating. Thankfully, I’ve got my sane husband to tell me when to stay off of Google and to stop worrying. 🙂 This month she also got to celebrate her first Valentine’s Day!

One day at daycare, she had some cheerios and instead of picking up a handful like most children her age do, she picked up a single cheerio and put it in her mouth every so dainty (I told you all she’s a diva! 😂). Speaking of daycare, it’s still been going great! Her teachers tell us all the time that they think Lyla is ahead and always wants to do things earlier than the rest of her classmates. She also thinks that she’s too much of a big girl for a morning nap, so she usually only takes one in the afternoon and sometimes a short one in the evening. She was also voted as the “most unique” in her class. She’s just got to do things her way even if they aren’t the typical way. 🙂

Milestones this month include her sitting up all the time now! She loves just sitting on the floor and playing with her toys. This month she learned how to clap and loves clapping when she’s excited. She also finds it funny when mom and dad rawr like a lion to her. She gives us big, deep belly laughs. Those our are favorites! 😍 Lastly, I can’t forget the most exciting part, she’s been starting to sleep (almost) through the night! 🙌🏼. We’ve been waiting a very long time for this. I found one of my pet peeves as a mom was when other parents would ask “is she sleeping through the night yet?”. It was hard because she wasn’t and I felt like every other parent’s baby was sleeping through the night at 2 or 3 months. Even though I know every kid is different, it was hard to not feel like I was doing something wrong.

On a sadder note, Lyla lost her Grandma Carol this month. She was an amazing grandma and is missed dearly. She couldn’t wait for Lyla’s arrival. We’re so thankful for the time we had with her. One thing we know for sure is Lyla’s got the best guardian angels looking over her. ❤️

Currently, Lyla is really starting to show us her independence. She is not a fan of the changing table at all! She twists, turns, and screams anytime one of us puts her on there. As you can imagine, this makes diaper changes and getting dressed a battle! Every morning she gives me an ear-piercing scream as I get her dressed for the day. She also is quite the drama queen when it’s time to get up, which brings me to our funny story of the month. Every morning Kent and I check the owl cam when we wake up. We can see when Lyla wakes up, so naturally, once we realize she is up we will go into her room and turn the light on. Lyla will immediately close her eyes and pretend like she’s still sleeping (see pic below). It’s the cutest thing. 🙂

That’s all I have that I have for month 7! Stay tuned for the 8-month update! ✨

Love, Brandi
