Life With Lyla: 6-Month Update
Hi friends! ✨
I hope everyone is doing well. It’s a rainy gloomy day outside so I thought I’d finally sit down and catch up on some blog stuff! That is if Lyla allows for it. 🙂 The 6-month mark hit differently. I realized that she was halfway to her first birthday which is insane to me! It feels like just yesterday we were bringing her home. Anyway, I’ve got lots to update you guys on so let’s go ahead and jump into it!
At her 6-month checkup, she was weighing 15lbs, 9 oz. She was all smiles and giggles until she had to get her shots. ☹️ Thankfully, the tears were short-lived and she was back to her happy self in no time. This month Lyla got really comfortable with moving her body. She tried sitting up by herself, rolled over from her back to tummy, wiggled out of her swing at daycare, and loves arching her back when going into the car seat. So I think it’s safe to say she still isn’t a fan of going into the car seat. I will say it’s slowly getting better though! We’ve learned that show tunes seem to do the trick (Are you going in the car, car, car, and go zoom, zoom, zoom? ). The daycare ladies say Lyla’s got abs of steel because every time she has tried to sit up by herself she lifts her head and feet off the floor. Maybe I should hire her as my personal trainer! 😉 She also has really started to enjoy jumping on her legs. Our girl just loves to move!
Lyla’s personality is really starting to show and we have learned so much! She loves singing at daycare and is a social butterfly like daddy! Every morning when Kent drops her off at daycare, she pokes her head out of her car seat so she can see where all her friends are. She loves saying hi and talking to all her besties! We’ve also learned Lyla has a serious case of FOMO (fear of missing out). She will fight sleep because she doesn’t want to miss a single thing. There are just too many exciting things happening all around her and she’s got to witness it all! I have a feeling our girl is going to be a busy bee as she gets older. I can definitely see her being involved in an array of different activities. We’ve also noticed that Lyla seems to really enjoy scratching fabric with her nails these days. I think she likes the sound it makes, but it makes me giggle anytime she does it. She also is notorious for being hungry as soon as Kent and I sit down to eat. It doesn’t matter what time it is. 6 PM, 7 PM, 8 PM…. if we’re eating, Lyla is too!
Some other exciting stuff that happened this month was Lyla got to celebrate her first New Year and got to start solids! She was so excited to try something new! We started with sweet potatoes and she seemed to enjoy it! Although, most of it ended up on her face than in her tummy. ☺️ My favorite thing that happened this month was Lyla said dada for the first time! 😍 Neither Kent nor I were expecting it (see video below) and it took us by surprise! I just happened to be recording right when she said it. It was perfect and I’m so thankful to have gotten it on film! It was honestly the sweetest moment. Now if only we can get her to say mama… 😉.
Alright, and now for the funny story of the month! You know I couldn’t end this post without one. 😁 One Sunday, we were sitting in church and the sermon had just begun. Lyla was sitting on my lap and out of nowhere decides it would be a good idea to start blowing bubbles with her mouth. No big deal I thought until she started getting louder and louder! Out of the corner of my eye, I see this young woman a few pews ahead slowly turning her head around to see where the sound was coming from. When she realized it was coming from Lyla, I could see her stifle a laugh which made it almost impossible not to bust out laughing. Leave it to Lyla to draw attention to herself even during the middle of a church sermon. 🙂
Those are all the updates I have for month 6! I hope you enjoyed this post and don’t forget to drop a comment below! 🙂
Thanks for reading.
Love, Brandi
