Life With Lyla: 5 Month Update

Hey friends!

I hope you are all doing well. Obviously, as you can tell by the date of this that I’m very behind on Lyla’s 5 month update. Between the holidays and our family being sick I had to put my blog on the back burner. However, my goal is get back on track this year and create more consistent content. With that being said, Lyla is doing exceptionally well!

Month 5 was an exciting one! She celebrated her first Christmas and I have to say, Christmas with a little one—there’s nothing like it. It made the holidays feel ten times more magical and I loved seeing Christmas through her eyes. Having a child is like the gift that keeps on giving. Every time she learns something new, I get so excited! She received a bell from Grandma Maureen this month and it has been one of her favorite toys to date. She found great pleasure in shaking it while grandma sang Jingle Bells. I say it every month, but the girl loves her music. One of the highlights of the holiday season was taking her through a drive thru light show. Her eyes were so big looking at all the colors and lights. We also took her to meet Santa for the very first time and she did amazing! She didn’t shed any tears. On Christmas Eve, we spent part of the evening with Grandma Maureen and the other half with Grandma Linda. Lyla was so excited she slept through most of Christmas Eve service and all through gift opening ☺️.

As with each month, Lyla shared with us some new things that she enjoys doing and some things he does not like. Let’s start with the stuff she enjoys! For starters, this month she found her feet and has loved grabbing them with her hands! Speaking of her feet, we are at that stage where socks are a no go. We put them on and she takes them right off. It’s a never ending cycle. I’m sure other mamas can relate! This month we also noticed she now recognizes her bottle. It’s the cutest thing, but don’t wait too long to make it or else she will get hangry. Sometimes she will get overly excited and start reaching with her mouth for the nipple before we even have a chance to sit down to feed her. Lastly, Lyla has enjoyed pooping in mommy’s car on the way home from daycare. It’s been almost a daily occurrence ☺️.

Now, for the things she doesn’t like this month? Being restricted! This month she started fighting us when going into her car seat. She does okay once she’s in there, but getting her in is another story. Once we get to where we are going, she is so anxious to get out and starts kicking her feet.

For milestones, she has started to lift her head a lot when laying down and I think she is in the very early stages of trying to sit up. She also said her very first word!! Google says most babies don’t say their first words until they are around 9 months, but I have her on video repeating the word “hey” to me, so I’m counting it! 😂

Those are all the updates I have for now. Thank you so much for reading and I’ll talk to you guys all again very soon!

Love, Brandi
