Life With Lyla: 4 Month Update

Hey friends!

Lyla turned 4 months old on November 27th! It blows my mind how big she is getting! It’s bittersweet seeing her grow up. One part of me loves to see all the new things she is learning and the milestones she is reaching. However, the other part of me wants her to stay little forever.

Month 4 was an exciting one for Lyla! She celebrated her first Halloween and her first Thanksgiving! If you follow me over on Instagram, you’ll know that Lyla was a Beanie Baby for Halloween! I thought it was the perfect costume for her this year since she was so small and I wanted to make sure she was warm in case we had a cooler day. I ended up filming on both of these days and you can watch both videos over on my YouTube channel for more Lyla content! 🙂

Lyla is still enjoying daycare and loves all her friends! She’s such a happy and social baby which makes my mama heart flourish with joy. This month Lyla has found her voice and loves sharing with Kent and I all about her day. She makes sure we hear every detail even if it is 3 o’clock in the morning. 🙂 We’ve discovered that Lyla is similar to Kent in various ways. For instance, she does not like an ounce of light when she sleeps. All lamps, nightights, etc. need to be completely off for her to sleep soundly. If a light is bothering her, she takes it upon herself to cover her entire face with a blanket which makes me a little anxious to say the least. She also loves snuggling with Miss Unicorn and enjoys being mischievous with daddy! There isn’t much that seems to bother Lyla, but recently she has not liked going in the car seat which makes pickups from daycare oh so fun… :)

We did have some setbacks this month too. Lyla and 5 other babies in her classroom tested positive for RSV. Listening to her wheezing was probably the worst thing in the world. Her getting RSV this little was one of my biggest fears, but thankfully she never had to be hospitalized and seemed to recover from it rather well. My heart goes out to the parents whose children had it much worse. It’s so scary and I can’t even begin to imagine the emotions of seeing your small child struggling to breathe. It’s definitely not something to be taken lightly.

On another note, Lyla’s 4 month check-up went well! She’s still gaining weight slowly and is in the 20th percentile for weight. Her doctor isn’t concerned though and said it’s likely Lyla might just end up being a long and lean baby. Speaking of lean… she’s in the 90th percentile for height! She’s measuring at 26 inches! One thing we did change up recently is the nipple size of her bottle. She was using a level 1 and we switched it to a level 2 after one of her daycare ladies suggested going up a size. It made a world of difference for her feedings! I honestly think this was part of the reason she was having trouble gaining weight. I think she was struggling so hard to get the milk out to the point where she was exhausted that she just fell asleep before getting full.

As far as milestones this month, Lyla hit a huge one! She rolled over from tummy to back this month! The funny thing is, right before this happened I had two dreams in which she rolled over. I guess God was trying to tell me something! This month we also noticed Lyla started to stiffen her legs more. She enjoys standing on mine or Kent’s legs when she doesn’t want to sit down.

Now for this month’s story! Lyla has always been our wiggle worm. She likes to move around and is a very active baby. One of her favorite activities is scooting herself off mine or Kent’s lap so she can hang upside down (see pic below). One day, I had her on my lap and she started to do that. I was holding her by her arms and as she scooted she decided to lift her legs up. Next thing I knew she was doing a flip off my legs! She was a little startled, but I think we might have a future gymnast on our hands!

That is all the updates I have for right now. I hope you all enjoyed this post and I will talk to you again soon.

Love, Brandi
