Life With Lyla: 10 Month Update
Hello everyone!
Ten months… it’s so crazy saying that! That’s how old our Lyla Brooke is now! Her 10-month was extra special because it was also my birthday 🙂. I love that we share the same day and Kent and her share the same month. Time sure is flying, but Kent and I love watching our girl grow! She’s Lyla the explorer and has no problem showing Mom and Dad how independent she is! 😉 So let’s just dive into all the fun and exciting things she’s been up to this month!
I’m happy to report that Lyla officially says “mama”. This makes me so happy! I’ve been waiting forever and it melts my heart to finally hear her say it. Lyla and I got to celebrate my first Mother’s Day with her here earthside and it was incredible! Currently, she enjoys coming to find me when Daddy asks her “Where’s mommy?”. Lyla also finds it funny to swat at my face and when I pretend to cry she giggles uncontrollably. Who needs toys when you can just beat up your parents? 😜
She also got her first tooth! It was very exciting to see one finally come through! I happened to be wiping her gums with a washcloth in the bath and felt something sharp. Sure enough, when I pulled away I saw it poking out. Poor girl. I’m sure the pain was awful. Good thing we don’t remember our teeth coming in. Ouch!
Lyla has been taking her sippy cup like a champ. I found that the sippy cups that have straws work best for her. She’s also been doing lots of headstands this month and working on her balance. She now uses furniture or us to pull herself up. One day I witnessed her crawling away from the couch, turn and then crawl at lightning speed back to the couch. It was almost like she needed a running start. It was hilarious! Our girl is fearless that’s for sure. One night Kent had her downstairs and stepped outside for a minute. I was upstairs and heard Lyla giggling. I walked over to the staircase and Lyla was halfway up the stairs!! 😳
When she’s not climbing stairs you can find her playing in her ball pit! She finally is not afraid of it! The first few times she was a little uneasy, but now she loves it! She even crawls through the tunnel that comes with it. Before she refused and instead would find a way out by utilizing the side of the ball pit. She also enjoys putting her toys in the pit and then taking them right back out. I love watching her play. It’s one of my favorite things about this age.
Speaking of playing, she absolutely loves her “big kid” friends at daycare. There’s one girl in particular who takes really good care of Lyla. If she sees older kids running around Lyla, she will yell “Stop! There is a baby right here!”. Lyla in turn will follow this little girl around all day. They’ve become the best of friends! ❤️ I’m glad Lyla has so much fun with her daycare friends. However, she’s been a little leery of new adult faces. We’ve hit the “stranger danger” phase and Lyla will not let us hand her off to someone she is not familiar with. We celebrated Lyla’s cousin’s graduation this month, and Lyla was picky about who could hold her. Mom or Dad had to be in sight at all times or else risk crocodile tears. Thankfully, I was able to get one good picture of Lyla with her cousin!
When Lyla was still in the womb, she would always get active whenever I played music. The theme song to Bluey and Baby Shark are her current favs. One evening I had Bluey playing in the background. Lyla was sitting on the floor and immediately got excited when she heard the song. She started clapping and reached down to grab her foot. As she lifted her foot into the air, she must have lost her balance because the next thing I knew she fell over. Lyla wasn’t happy, but I couldn’t help but laugh a little 🙂. Something else Lyla has been enjoying lately is going under the kitchen table to play. It’s her own makeshift fort. This brings me to our funny story!
One evening, Kent was down on the floor in Lyla’s room playing with her. Out of nowhere she starts crawling out to the kitchen and goes under the table. Suddenly, he heard a grunt and says to Lyla “Are you pooping?!”. Sure enough, she had. We’ve noticed that this is her new thing. If she has to go number two, she will usually try to do it in private. Google says it’s a sign that if children do this, it might mean that they’ve observed that a parent does their business in private and it could mean they are getting ready for potty training. Who knows! I guess we’ll see if that’s the case as time goes on.
Anyway, that’s all I have for this month.
Thanks for reading and following along with all of Lyla’s adventures! ✨
Love, Brandi
