Life With Lyla: 11 Month Update

Hey everyone! ✨

As usual, I’m behind on Lyla’s updates, but the last few weeks have been SO busy! My mom had shoulder surgery at the end of June. Kent’s been taking care of some family things out of town, and to top things off, we all caught a nasty virus around the 4th of July. Thankfully, we are on the mend and have been getting ready for Lyla’s 1st birthday! I can’t believe our baby is going to be ONE! ✨

This month has been full of new and exciting things! We noticed Lyla started making a sound when she crawls that we call her zombie noise. I’m not even sure how to describe the noise. It reminds me of something you’d hear on The Walking Dead haha. Check out the video below to see for yourself! She also has learned how to hop and does this when she’s excited about something. Lyla likes to stay busy and always wants something in her hands. She also loves crawling in my lap when she plays or watches tv. Lately, she enjoys taking my water bottles and shaking them. In addition, she has found it entertaining to throw her toy down the stairs and sometimes even daddy’s keys 😜. Some other new milestones we have noticed are her pointing at people or objects and standing by herself!

Lyla has also started to wean herself off the bottle which is bittersweet for me. It’s awesome that she did it herself, but sad because it means my baby is growing up. As of right now, she’s down to only one bottle in the afternoon. The rest of the time she drinks milk from her sippy cup. One of the harder things we had to endure this month was some sleep training. We noticed once Lyla hit 10 months she was having an awful time putting herself to sleep or self-soothing if she woke up. She would wake up countless times during the night, and it became so bad that it was starting to affect her mood and behavior during the day.

We decided to try the FERBER method and it worked like a charm! I see now why parents swear by it. The first night was tough on Kent and me. We put her to bed, and immediately after leaving the room, she was standing in her crib crying. I waited 3 minutes and went back in. She was still crying and then reached out and said “Mama”. I almost broke down when that happened ☹️. However, I stayed strong and gently laid her back down and rubbed her back before leaving again. Within 20 minutes she was down and we stuck to that routine for the rest of the week. Since then we’ve had no issues with getting her to sleep.

Lyla had some fun adventures this month! Over Memorial Day Weekend, she went to visit Grandpa Terry’s grave for the first time down in Humboldt. We celebrated her first Father’s Day with Kent, and they did “Donuts with Dads” at her daycare. She also went on her first road trip to Colorado! She was a perfect angel in the car and did better than we expected. It was the perfect getaway for her first vacation. We can’t wait to return when she’s a little older and do some hiking! 🙂

Alright, and now for this month’s story! Lyla has always been a music lover, and this still holds true. Her favorite song is “Who Let The Dogs Out”. Daycare plays this whenever Lyla is sad, and she cheers right up. She gets so excited that she starts dancing! Check out the video below! Perhaps she will follow in her cousin’s footsteps and dance. Only time will tell. Anyway, that is all that I have for this month’s update. I can’t believe that the next time I post an update Lyla will be one year old. It still blows my mind, but I’m excited to see where this next year will take her.

Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for her birthday theme post! ✨

Love, Brandi 🩵
