Life With Lyla: 12 Month Update
Hello everyone!
I hope you are all doing well and had a terrific Summer! We celebrated Lyla’s first birthday on July 27th!! I still can’t believe we have a one-year-old! I will be posting the party details in a separate blog post so be on the lookout for that! Today, I wanted to share her 12-month update. This will be the last one for a while. I plan to start doing them yearly from now on. I feel like every time I look at Lyla she is doing something new. It’s been an exciting time and as chaotic as life gets, I’m trying to remember to embrace the craziness of it all because I know it won’t be like this forever.
This month we saw Lyla take her first steps and she officially started walking a week before her birthday. Kent and I were ecstatic! Of course, this means we now get to chase her all around the house. She finds it hilarious to run away from us when it’s time for a diaper change or bath time. Another big thing we noticed this month is her hair has started to lay down! No more “punk rock” hair as Grandma Linda likes to call it. She has up to 7 teeth now and we also upgraded her car seat this month. No more having to tote around the car seat with her in it! My back and biceps very much appreciate this change! Haha.
Currently, Lyla enjoys turning the TV on, making pillow forts with Daddy, and is obsessed with Mickey’s Clubhouse and Cocomelon! If she hears the theme song from Mickey, she will start dancing immediately. When she’s not watching her favorite shows, Lyla spends her time throwing her toys down the stairs and outside of the tub. She also has a real knack for getting past all the baby-proofing locks daddy has put on the kitchen cabinets. If she wants something, she will get to it one way or another. The cabinet locks left just enough of a gap that Lyla could wiggle her tiny wrist through and pull things out. She’s also a mini hulk and used her strength to pull open the pantry door resulting in one of the locks breaking. Thankfully, we found some magnetic safety adhesives that have worked much better! I will link them here in case anyone is interested in getting some for their home! They’ve been a lifesaver!
Now, for the story of the month! Since Lyla was a newborn we have always said grace before dinner. We figured the repetition would be good for her and help her to learn it as she got older. Well, one day Kent and I started giving thanks and halfway through, Lyla started giggling. She did this for about two weeks anytime we would say grace. It was adorable!
That is all I have for now. I appreciate you all taking the time to read about all of Lyla’s adventures and milestones! It’s been such a joy sharing all of her accomplishments with all of you. It will feel weird not doing these monthly, but you can still keep up with us on my Instagram page @aprettylittlesparkle.
Love, Brandi
