How I Told Kent About The Baby

Hey friends!

Happy Friday! How are you all doing? Aside from the waves of tiredness that pregnancy has brought on, I’m doing okay. Today, I wanted to take a moment and share how I told Kent about the baby. If you watched our reaction video, then you’ll know that I didn’t film Kent’s reaction. I did this for a couple of reasons. One, I had a feeling if I pulled out my camera that he would know immediately something was up. Two, the more I thought about it, I really wanted that moment to be an intimate moment between the two of us. After all, it is our first baby and a special time. I wanted to take it all in without focusing on recording.

So, how did I tell him exactly? Well, let’s just say I had to get creative and I didn’t have a whole lot of time to do it. I always knew I wanted to surprise him in a cute way. What I didn’t realize is how hard it would be to keep it a secret! Obviously, we had been trying so at some point we both knew this moment would come. However, I think we were both surprised by how suddenly it happened. Neither of us expected to get pregnant the month that we did. I’ll be honest, the second I got a positive result from the first test I wanted to race into the bedroom to tell him. However, I didn’t want to get either of our hopes up if it happened to be a false positive. Therefore, I waited until after the third test. When I got a positive result on the third test, I couldn’t wait any longer.

I had taken the third test on a Friday, right after work. Kent always gets off a little bit later than me so I had a little time to brainstorm how I would announce the news. I immediately got on Pinterest to get my creative juices flowing. Nothing jumped out immediately and the ideas I did like would have required more time and planning. Knowing I wanted to tell him that night I put the phone down and started walking around our house. I stepped into my office to gather my thoughts and saw the Baby Yoda stuffed animal I gave Kent as a Christmas present the year before (Okay real talk here, I bought it for Kent, but in reality, I wanted it for myself ;) ). I picked it up and an idea came to me. What if I made it look like the Baby Yoda was holding the pregnancy test? Kent has always been a big Star Wars fan, and it just felt like the perfect way to tell him. Since the Baby Yoda is so small, I wanted to make a sign to put with it so Kent wouldn’t miss it. I quickly got on the computer and whipped up a sign in a matter of minutes. For the text, I wrote “A Child Is Coming! :)” For all my Star War fans, you know that Baby Yoda is referred to as “The Child” on Mandalorian. It was perfect, and I couldn’t wait for Kent to get home.

After printing the sign, I took everything downstairs and sat the Baby Yoda on the couch with the test. I placed the sign next to it and headed back upstairs to wait for Kent. It seemed like it took forever but in reality, he got home around the same time as he always did. As soon as I heard the garage door up, it took everything in me not to start bouncing off the walls. He came in and went straight to the freezer for a popsicle (the man is obsessed I tell you). I told him that I had bought a new decor piece for downstairs and wanted him to see how I styled it. We headed downstairs and I watched him scan the room. It took him a minute, and then he saw it. “WHAT?! SHUT UP! ARE YOU SERIOUS?” Kent shouted excitedly. I showed him the other two tests and he smiled. Neither of us shed any tears, but I think it’s because we were both still in shock. I don’t think it had hit us at that moment we were going to be parents. Nevertheless, we were ecstatic and can’t wait for this new and exciting chapter! Stay tuned for my next baby update where I’ll share about our first ultrasound :) In the meantime, I will be working on putting up some Valentine’s Day decor & content in the coming weeks so be on the lookout for that also! :)

Have a safe and wonderful weekend friends!

Love, Brandi
