We’re Pregnant!

The day was November 17th, 2021. It was a Wednesday, and I remember sitting at work preoccupied with my thoughts. I couldn’t focus on anything except that my period hadn’t come. My cycle has always been regular. Could it be? Is this the month? We’ve only been trying for a few months. Am I sure I’m ready to be a mom? All of these thoughts anxiously crept into my mind as I waited for 5 o’clock to come.

I just needed a test. That’s it. I walked into Target, and immediately saw a line that stretched all the way down the center aisle. I quickly maneuvered through the crowd, grabbed the test, and got in line. Thankfully, the line moved at a reasonable pace. I was so anxious to get home. I walked up to the self-checkout, paid, and was on my way out the door when suddenly the security alarm went off. You have got to be kidding me… I turned and showed the lady my sack. She pulled out the pregnancy test said “Is this it?” I respond quickly with a “yep” desperate to get out of there before anyone I know sees me.

Once I was finally home, I rushed into the bathroom to take my first test. I had bought two rapid and two digital tests. I started with the rapid and within seconds. it showed a positive sign. Is it supposed to happen this fast? Did I do something wrong? My brain was going a mile a minute trying to process the information. I decided I would take another test in the morning. I didn’t want to get my hopes up just yet.

Morning couldn’t come soon enough. I woke up early, took the test, and got another positive result within seconds. I started to get excited but did not want to say anything to Kent until I took one of the digital tests. That night when I got home, I grabbed a digital test and went into the bathroom. I watched the dots flash across the screen as I waited impatiently for the result. I turned it over and stepped out of the bathroom. I returned a few minutes later, and read “Pregnant”. I was over the moon, and couldn’t wait to tell Kent!

That was 6 weeks ago, and now I’m about 11 weeks along. You are the size of a strawberry, but you started out the size of a sesame seed. This was the nickname we gave you shortly after we found out. Words can’t describe how excited we are to meet you. I get giddy thinking about the future. Who will you look like? What will your interests be? All the while I’m thanking God for this incredible gift.

I’ve been fortunate enough to not experience any morning sickness. I’ve noticed some physical changes, but the main thing I’ve noticed is how tired I am! My energy levels have dipped tremendously. I hear they will go back up come the second trimester. It’s been a challenge getting things crossed off my to-do lists these days, but I wouldn’t trade this experience for the world. Right now baby has been waking me up at least once a night to go to the bathroom, and boy am I hungry all the time! I’m excited to see the changes that will take place in the following weeks and months. I want to thank you all for taking the time to read this and appreciate all the kind words from family and friends. I just posted the reaction video of us telling our family over on my YouTube channel. You can click here to watch! Stay tuned for my next post where I share how I told Kent about the baby :)

I love you all! Kent and I are very excited for this new chapter in our lives :)

Love, Brandi
