Our First Ultrasound
Hey friends!
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Kent and I were fortunate to have Monday off in honor of MLK Day, so we spent the day shopping for a few home items and binge-watching a Netflix show. Have you guys watched Archive 81 yet? If you like mystery thrillers, it’s worth giving it a watch. It was a little hard to follow at times, but I thought it was good overall. Kent and I love these mysteries because we enjoy coming up with our predictions on how we think the show will play out. We enjoy seeing if our predictions are spot on or if we're completely wrong, haha.
Anyway, today I am excited to share another baby update with you! I'm going to share all the details of how our first ultrasound went! As excited as I was to see our little one for the first time, I was also kind of nervous. Being a first-time parent and not knowing what to expect made me anxious. I also always assumed that I would experience morning sickness or have food aversions whenever I got pregnant. None of which I have experienced (thank goodness). Therefore, I worried my lack of symptoms meant something was wrong. However, after talking to some of my mama friends, I realized that many of them did not have any nausea with their first pregnancy either. They told me to consider myself lucky. Hearing that helped ease some of my concerns and made me feel less anxious going into the appointment.
The appointment happened five days before Christmas. Kent went in late to work so he could accompany me. Shortly after we arrived, we headed back for the ultrasound. The ultrasound tech warmed up the jelly and began pressing down. I was surprised by the pressure. It didn’t hurt, but it wasn’t exactly the most comfortable experience either, haha. She went over in great detail what we were seeing on the screen. As she moved around and pressed a little deeper, she came across what looked to me like a jelly bean. She informed us that what we were looking at was our baby! She took a lot of pictures! At one point, the baby began to move its arm. It was the cutest thing and looked like the baby was waving at us! I was surprised at how active the baby was. She told us the heartbeat was 158, and I jokingly told Kent that one of the old wife's tales is that a high heartbeat means the gender is a girl ;) . She also told us that the baby was one in a half-inch.
The nerves and anxiousness I had experienced before diminished quickly after seeing the baby and hearing that everything looked okay. She gave us our pictures and again I was shocked at how many we got from the first appointment! I mentioned in a previous post that it hadn't hit me yet that there was a tiny human being growing inside of me. However, after seeing that little arm wave, it made things more real for me. It’s one of the best feelings in the world, and I can only imagine what it will feel like when I hear the heartbeat for the first time or feel the baby kick, or better yet, hold our baby for the first time. I’m very excited for these next few months, and I can’t wait to share them all with you.
I hope you all enjoyed this post and have a great rest of your week! My Valentine’s Day Decorate with me post will be up later this week, so be on the lookout for that!
Thanks for reading.
Love, Brandi
