About to Be Something New, Lyla’s Turning Two!

Hello friends!

How are you guys doing? I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve been on here and shared. Life with a toddler has kept me busy. I can’t believe I have a two-year-old, you guys! It’s wild! I plan to share an update about our sweet girl in a separate post, but for now, let’s talk about the party details!

This year, because our munchkin loves watching Cocomelon, we decided that would be her party theme. If you’re a parent of a toddler then you know all about the wonderful (and sometimes annoying) Cocomelon show. I don’t think I go a single day without having one of their songs stuck in my head. When deciding what I wanted to call the party, I found it fitting to use one of their songs as part of the title. A popular one that I find myself humming along to is “About to be Something New” which as you can guess is all about trying new things. Thus, the song inspired the title, and that’s how I came up with “About to be Something New, Lyla’s Turning Two!”.

For those who have watched the show, you already know how colorful and vibrant the show is. To add a girlier twist on things, I did a pastel rainbow color scheme (and sparkles, obviously). Instead of having the party decorations upstairs, I set up a space downstairs this year to give us a bit more room. I also opted for balloon stands instead of the arch that I did last year. For the main table, I covered it with a plastic lavender tablecloth and attached a colorful ribbon table skirt that I found off Amazon. Behind it, I hung the banner that I made using my Cricut machine and some pastel-colored streamers.

Last year, I purchased paper mache letters and a number 1 to decorate. Because I loved how much those turned out, I decided to turn it into a fun tradition that I can do every year. The school bus in the middle is a toy Lyla already had. Because the bus is an important symbol in the show, I thought it was appropriate to include it as part of the decorations. In addition to these elements, I also put together bouquets of different colored flowers to represent all the colors in the rainbow. I used vases that I had left over from our wedding and jazzed them up by taking different shades of green streamers to resemble the outside of a watermelon. I put a couple more over on the dessert table, and then took some cutouts of Cocomelon characters and stuck them in as picks. I also made a tulle garland to add some extra sparkle!

What would a party be without the food, right? For birthday parties, we like to stick to appetizers and snack food. This year we did “Cocomelon Slices”, “Wheels on the Bus”, “Cody’s Chips and Dip”, “JJ’s Juice” and “Cici’s Cookies and Cupcakes. I wanted custom cookies, but they were SO expensive! So, instead, I made a good old-fashioned chocolate chip cookie and made stickers using the Cricut to put on the bags to add that little extra detail. For party favors, we sent the kiddos home with sunglasses and a bottle of bubbles with a cute tag that said “Thanks a MELON!”.

Overall, the party was a success and I loved how everything turned out! I hope you guys find this post helpful if you are needing ideas/inspiration for your kiddo’s party!

Thanks for reading!
