2021 Halloween Costumes
Hey friends!
How are you doing today? Yesterday was the perfect day to curl up on the couch with a warm beverage and watch Halloween movies. Did I do that? I wish! I am a little disappointed I did not. Instead, I spent the day getting frustrated with technology. However, it had been on my To-Do List to figure out our new printer and back up photos/videos to my external hard drive. Thankfully, after many hours I finished! :) It feels so good to check that off my list.
Anyway, today I am excited to share our Halloween costumes this year! When I was in middle school, my best friend introduced me to Avril Lavigne, and I became obsessed with her music. I was never a big girly girl, and my closet maybe had five tops total that was not black, so naturally, I wanted to be just like her. This year, for my costume, I decided to channel my inner Avril and throw it back to my middle school days! The problem? Kent and I usually do couple costumes. I struggled with how to incorporate him. That is until I had the best idea ever! Why not make him my skater boy?! I thought the idea was brilliant and such an easy costume to throw together.
Last year, Kent and I were Johnny and June, and I loved how our costumes turned out. However, I know costumes can get expensive. My best piece of advice is to start by going through your closet at home. If you go shopping, try to look for items you will use again. It may not always work out, but being mindful of what you are buying will help save money. In addition, this is a time to be creative. You would be amazed at what you can come up with if you put your mind to it :)
For my Avril costume, I am wearing black skinny jeans and a black t-shirt. I have a pair of converse I am going to pair with the outfit. The only items I purchased for my costume are a necktie, stud bracelets, and a wallet chain. I plan to straighten my hair (which I already do 75% of the time) and apply darker makeup.
Kent’s costume is even simpler. The only thing we purchased for him was a Vans t-shirt. I plan on having him wear jeans, a beanie, and then shoes he already owns. The shoes are not actual skater shoes, but I think he has a pair that looks close enough. I also plan on having him wear some of the punk rock bracelets I purchased for my costume. The last thing we need for his costume is a skateboard. We hope to borrow one from a friend that he can use as his prop.
In addition to my Avril costume, my manager’s networking group is putting on a Trunk or Treat and me and another co-worker are going to help hand out candy. We are encouraged to dress up, so we are going to do a Jurassic park theme. My co-worker is dressing up as the dinosaur, and my manager and I are dressing up as the park rangers. For this costume, I bought an oversized button-down shirt and a pair of combat boots. I’ve wanted a pair of combat boots, so this worked out perfectly since I will be able to wear them for lots of other things. I plan to pair the combat boots with jeans and then tie the button-down shirt in the front how Ellie did in the movie. For my hair, I will be keeping it simple. I will likely do a half-up, half-down hairstyle. We plan on decorating her car too, so I’m excited to see how it all turns out.
I hope you guys enjoyed this post, and I can’t wait to share how our costumes turned out! If you are still looking for a Halloween costume, I hope this post gave you some ideas. Halloween is supposed to be fun, so don’t worry about dropping a lot of money on a costume. Like I mentioned earlier, see what you guys find in your closet, tap into your creative side (everyone has one! lol), and unleash your inner sparkle :)
I hope you all have a safe and fun Halloween.
Thanks for reading. Take care.
Love, Brandi
