Life With Lyla: Weeks 3-5
Hey friends!
I hope you all are doing well! I am back with another Life With Lyla update! As all new parents know, life with a newborn can be a bit chaotic. Kent and I are hanging in there though! As crazy as life is, we love learning about our girl and seeing her grow with each passing day. Here is what Lyla has been up to the last few weeks!
It’s hard to believe, but our Lyla is already 1 month old! In 4 short weeks, we learned that she is quite the little diva. She requests her bottles be warmed up for approximately 8 seconds and not a second less. She also demands her diaper be changed instantly or risk a blood-curdling scream. We have started tummy time and nine out of ten times she faceplants into the playmat… ;). Hopefully, as time goes on she’ll learn to like it more. Her neck muscles are getting stronger every day and I foresee her rolling over early because the girl loves turning on her side.
You always hear about baby boys peeing on their parents right? Well, we found out that it’s not just boys! Our Lyla has successfully peed on both grandma Maureen and me. It’s okay though because she just flashes us with her adorable gummy smile and we can’t help but melt into a pile of mush. We adore her gummy smiles and love that she’s so smiley! Google says babies don’t giggle until about 4 months, but I’m about 99% positive I witnessed Lyla’s first giggle while she was sleeping. Perhaps she was laughing about the time when daddy was giving her a sponge bath and placed her rubber ducky on the counter so she could see it instead of in the water. Daddy didn’t realize the rubber ducky was meant to determine the temperature of the water. :)
We’re also starting to see characteristics and traits of ourselves in Lyla. For instance, when she is startled she likes to throw her hands up. She gets that from daddy. Although, daddy does it more when he’s frustrated rather than when he’s startled. We’ve also noticed that Lyla loves sleeping with her arms above her head and will fight you if you even attempt to swaddle them. Apparently, she gets that from me because I happened to stumble across a baby photo of me sleeping in the same position! One thing she does not get from either of us is her love for turning horizontal while she sleeps, haha! We will put her in the crib or bassinet vertical and by the middle of the night, she has rotated 180 degrees! We joke that she’s like the hands of a clock and moves little by little each hour. She’s our little wiggle worm and has thoroughly enjoyed playing with her piano play gym. Grandma Maureen calls her the “Fighting Pianist” because of how aggressively she kicks the piano. :)
Lyla has experienced some new activities over the last few weeks. She had her first shopping trip to Hobby Lobby, At Home, and of course Target! She also got to learn how to install outlets with daddy. It’s hard to say which activity she found more interesting considering she slept through both of them. :) Aside from new activities, Lyla also got to meet lots of new people. She visited both mine and Kent’s workplaces and even made an appearance at grandma Linda’s job too!
Now, I couldn’t end this post without sharing a funny story. I mentioned earlier that Lyla peed on me. About a week before that event happened, Kent and I were getting ready to give Lyla her bath. Kent took her diaper off while I was holding her. Suddenly, he says “She’s peeing!”. My initial reaction was to quickly put her in the bathtub. Kent started laughing hysterically and goes “I’m just kidding, but man you were about to toss our daughter into the tub!” Literally, about a week later, we were again getting ready to put her in the bath. I was holding her and Kent took her diaper off, except this time she did in fact pee. Kent looked at me and goes “aren’t you going to throw her in like last time?”.
Thank you so much for reading and I hope you all enjoyed this post.
Stay tuned for our next Life With Lyla update! :)
Love, Brandi
