Life With Lyla: Week One
Hey friends!
Our little girl, Lyla graced us with her presence on July 27th, 2022. I'm planning on doing a blog post on my labor and delivery soon, but in the meantime, I thought it would be fun to share my new series: Life With Lyla. As Kent and I are quickly finding out, babies grow quickly! Lyla does something new every day! In one short week, we found out so much about our little girl and even have a few good stories to share that I’m sure other parents can relate to! With that being said, let’s dive into week one of Life With Lyla! :)
Just hours after her birth, we quickly learned that noise doesn’t seem to disrupt Lyla’s sleep. Not one bit! While we were resting after delivery and waiting to be taken to the postpartum room, three hospital machines all started beeping at once! It was very annoying, and our first thought was this was guaranteed to wake our sleeping baby. We hit the call button immediately, but because there were several other babies being born that night, it took about 15 minutes before a nurse came in. However, Lyla slept through the whole fiasco! I’m pretty sure Kent and I were more bothered by it than she was. As more time has passed, we are convinced that Lyla could sleep through an entire rock concert without being awakened.
Laila or Lyla? Depends on which nurse you ask, haha! Between all the nurses taking care of us, someone accidentally wrote down Laila, and about five nurses later we finally got it corrected, or so we thought. When we got home we received a card in the mail from the nurses that took care of us, and sure enough one of them wrote how much they enjoyed taking care of Laila… :)
Speaking of our nurses, Lyla was told by one of them that she was an excellent “sucker”. Apparently, there was another baby down the hall who did not understand the art of feeding. Not Lyla though. Almost 24 hours on the dot, she was cluster feeding, and mommy and daddy had no idea why were needing to feed her every 45 minutes!
The day we left the hospital, we wondered how Lyla would do in the car. Some babies hate car rides, and others love them. Thankfully, Lyla seems to enjoy car rides. She either dozes off or looks at mommy :) Let’s hope this continues!
On 07/30/22, Kent and I had plans to attend a Goo Goo Dolls concert that we had waited two years for (thank you, Covid)! However, once we found out about our little one, we sold the tickets, and we instead spent the night giving Lyla her first sponge bath! She was not a fan. The following day she got us back by delivering her first blowout. Who knew a 4 day-old baby could shoot poop so far?! It went everywhere!
Sleep deprivation hit us hard, but it might have hit daddy harder. One morning, after showering, he came out to the living room in his towel to tell me something. While talking, he started to dry off. I looked at him and then looked at the window that had the shades opened. He quickly realized that our neighbors were about to get quite the show and ran back into the bathroom…:) What can I say? Lack of sleep makes us do crazy things!
The first week flew by, and I can’t wait to see what the following weeks bring! We are thoroughly exhausted, but we are beyond blessed and so in love with our little girl. Stay tuned to see what happens in Week 2! :)
Love, Brandi
