Life With Lyla: 2-Month Update

Hey friends!

Lyla turned 2 months old yesterday! I can hardly believe it’s been that long already! It feels like just yesterday that we brought her home from the hospital. Our little girl is thriving though! Last Monday, she started daycare and she’s been doing amazing! On the other hand, I was crying before we even left the house. Thankfully, they sent pictures throughout the day, which helped A LOT! Her daycare teachers are wonderful and they told us that they’ve never seen an 8-week-old smile so much. This makes my mama's heart so happy! The big kids adore her and she had a baby friend that started a couple of days after her. He’s a month older, but they are already the best of pals! Speaking of pals, Lyla had her first play date with her besties Violet and her older sister, Lila! She had a great time playing and practicing tummy time! We can’t wait to get together with them again soon!

Lyla’s appearance hasn’t changed too much since birth, however, we have noticed her hair getting lighter. Will she be blonde? Will it go dark again? Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain, and that is her hair isn’t lying down anytime soon, haha! The girl’s got some wild hair! It sticks straight up no matter what we do. Kent and I often refer to her as Frankenstein. Lyla also gets a lot of compliments on her lips. Where she gets her perfect lips from beats me, but people sure do love them! We’ve also noticed that her grip has gotten stronger. On a few occasions, I’ve seen her gripping her pacifier or a rattle when she’s bored. However, her favorite thing to grip is my hair… :)

Some activities she has enjoyed doing lately are swinging in her new swing that Grandma Linda bought and playing what we call the “Pacifier Game”. The game works like this: Kent or I will give her the pacifier, and she will smile at us, take it, spit it out, and repeat. She could do that for hours if we let her. One activity she does not like is when Grandma Maureen and Kent pretend to be a lion and roar at her. She will burst into tears and offer us an ear-piercing scream. Guess we won’t be watching The Lion King anytime soon, haha.

She’s had some special events happen in month 2 including her baptism and her 2-month checkup! Her baptism was beautiful and she did so well!! She didn’t cry once during the entire sermon or when Pastor John put the water on her. Her checkup was yesterday, and overall it went well. She got her first round of shots, and handled those like a champ! She cried for all of 30 seconds and was instantly soothed after receiving cuddles from Kent and me. Her weight gain has been slow, but her doctor isn’t overly concerned. We are scheduled to go back in a month for an update, so hopefully, by then, Lyla will have gained some more weight and be back on track.

Now, for the funny story of the month! Lyla is typically very good when we’ve gone to church. I was naive to think this would always be the case. A couple of Sundays ago, we had just got done with confession and it was time to take a moment of silence. Lyla, who hadn’t made a peep, decided at that moment to let out a big scream… :) We will have to work on what taking a moment of silence means. :)

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed this Life With Lyla update and I will talk to you all again in my next post.

Love, Brandi
